While Lindenwold, NJ, isn't necessarily known as a smallmouth bass hotspot, dedicated anglers can find some decent action in the local waterways. The key is to target areas with rocky structure and current, which can be found in portions of the Cooper River. Spring and fall are generally the best times to fish for smallmouth, as these fish are more active when water temperatures are moderate. Look for areas near bridges, dams, or other structures that create current breaks. Smallmouth in this area tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures can be effective. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs are all good choices. Fly fishing with nymphs or streamers can also be productive. Access to the Cooper River can be challenging in some areas, so be sure to scout out potential fishing spots beforehand. Smallmouth in this region are generally smaller, averaging 1-3 pounds, but the thrill of the hunt makes it worthwhile.
