Smallmouth bass fishing near Somerdale, New Jersey, means heading to the Delaware River. While not right in Somerdale, the Delaware offers the best smallmouth opportunities in the region. Focus your efforts on rocky areas, current breaks, and submerged structure. Spring and fall are generally the most productive times. During the warmer months, early morning and late evening are prime times. Tubes, crankbaits, and jerkbaits are all effective lures. Wading is possible in some areas, but a boat allows you to cover more water. There are several public access points and boat ramps along the river. Be aware of the strong currents, especially after rain. One local tip is to pay attention to water clarity – smallmouth prefer clearer water. The smallmouth in the Delaware River can reach impressive sizes, so be prepared for a good fight. Remember to check both New Jersey and Pennsylvania fishing regulations, as the river forms the border, and different rules may apply depending on which side you're fishing.
