Snook

While not as abundant as redfish or speckled trout, Snook can be a thrilling catch around Jamaica Beach, Texas. These subtropical predators are more common during the warmer months, typically from late spring through early fall. Look for them around docks, jetties, and other structures that provide cover. The Galveston Bay system offers brackish waters that snook sometimes venture into, particularly near the mouths of bayous. A key tactic is to fish live bait, such as shrimp or small pinfish, near these structures, especially during periods of slack tide. Be aware that snook are sensitive to cold temperatures, so their presence in the area can fluctuate depending on the severity of the winter. Keep an eye on water temperatures and target areas with slightly warmer water. Snook fishing in this area is more of a targeted effort, but the reward is well worth the patience.
