Spotted Bass

While largemouth bass get most of the attention in Waynesboro, Georgia, the area also holds a healthy population of spotted bass, particularly in the creeks and rivers feeding into larger bodies of water like the Savannah River. These feisty fish provide a fun alternative, often schooling and readily hitting lures. Look for them around rocky areas, submerged timber, and creek mouths. Spotted bass are active throughout the year, but spring and fall are particularly good. A trick often used by local anglers is to use smaller lures and lighter line when targeting spotted bass, as they can be line-shy in clear water. Also, focus on areas with current, as spotted bass prefer moving water. The spotted bass in this region tend to be smaller than largemouth, but their aggressive strikes make them a fun target nonetheless.
