Spotted Bass

While not as abundant as other bass species in Nebraska, Spotted Bass can be found near Bellevue. The key is targeting specific habitat within the Missouri River and its connected backwaters. Look for areas with rocky structure, submerged timber, and current breaks. These fish prefer slightly clearer water than largemouth, so focus on tributaries or areas where the river's flow slows down. Spring and fall are the best times to target Spotted Bass, as they tend to be more active in cooler water temperatures. Small crankbaits, jerkbaits, and Texas-rigged worms are effective lures. A good starting point is to explore the areas where the Platte River flows into the Missouri; these areas can hold some surprises. Remember that Spotted Bass may be misidentified as Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass, so familiarize yourself with the identifying characteristics.
