Spotted Bass

While Largemouth Bass are more prevalent, anglers in Wellfleet, Nebraska can find Spotted Bass though they are less common. Spotted bass, known for their aggressive strikes, can be found in the deeper, clearer sections of the local reservoirs. Focus your efforts near rocky bluffs, submerged timber, and points with steep drop-offs. These fish prefer slightly cooler water and more current than largemouth, so target areas where these conditions exist. Spring and fall are the most productive times. Small crankbaits, jigs, and Carolina-rigged lizards are effective baits. A local tactic is to use a fish finder to locate schools of baitfish and then target the areas around them. Spotted bass often congregate near these bait schools. Be aware that spotted bass are sometimes misidentified as largemouth, so familiarize yourself with the subtle differences in their appearance. The spotted bass population here is smaller, but the ones you catch are often feisty fighters.
