Striped Bass

While Hull, Georgia, itself isn't a striped bass mecca, its proximity to the Savannah River system makes it a viable base for striper anglers. Lakes Hartwell and Russell, both a short drive from Hull, are stocked with striped bass and offer the best opportunities. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, coinciding with the stripers' migratory patterns. During the spring, focus on the upper reaches of the lakes as the stripers move upstream to spawn. Live bait, such as blueback herring, is a popular and effective choice, but trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits can also produce. A helpful hint: Pay attention to the oxygen levels in the water, especially during the summer months. Stripers will often congregate in areas with higher oxygen concentrations, typically in deeper water near the dam.
