Crappie

If you're looking for slab crappie in northeast Georgia, Hull offers some excellent freshwater opportunities. While not directly on a major lake, Hull provides easy access to several productive crappie fisheries including nearby Lake Hartwell and Lake Russell. Spring is prime time, as crappie move into the shallows to spawn. Target brush piles, submerged timber, and docks in coves and creek arms with jigs or minnows under a float. Fall can also be productive as the water cools and crappie school up again. A local tip: Pay attention to water clarity. After heavy rains, the water can get muddy, pushing crappie deeper. In clearer water, they'll often hold shallower. Check the Georgia DNR website for updated fishing reports and lake levels before you go. Anglers should note that crappie in this region can be susceptible to white spot disease; inspect your catch and report any abnormalities to the DNR.
