If you're looking for a striped bass adventure in southern Georgia, Jacksonville offers some surprisingly good opportunities in its freshwater rivers. The Ocmulgee River is your primary target here, known for its decent striper runs. The best time to target these hard-fighting fish is during the cooler months, from late fall through early spring, when they move upstream to spawn. Focus your efforts around creek mouths, deeper holes, and areas with current breaks. Bank access is available at a few public parks along the Ocmulgee, but a small boat or kayak will significantly expand your reach. Local tip: Pay attention to water levels. After heavy rains, the river can become muddy, making it tougher to entice strikes. Live shad or large swimbaits are your best bet for attracting these predators.
