Striped Bass

While Prentiss, Mississippi, might not be the first place that comes to mind for striper fishing, anglers can find opportunities in the Pearl River system. Similar to Poplarville, the Pearl supports a population of landlocked stripers that can be targeted during their upstream migrations. The late fall and winter months are the most productive. Focus your efforts on the stretch of the Pearl River accessible from Prentiss. Look for deeper holes, areas below dams, and confluences with smaller creeks. These fish tend to be smaller than their coastal cousins, but they still provide a good fight. Use larger swimbaits, crankbaits, or live bait to entice a strike. Be aware of water levels and currents, as they can fluctuate rapidly. A local angler's trick: try fishing near the Highway 13 bridge; the pilings often hold stripers.
