White Bass

Prentiss, Mississippi, might not be the first place that comes to mind for white bass, but the Pearl River and its tributaries offer a surprisingly consistent fishery for these aggressive fighters. The spring spawning run, typically from late February through April, is prime time. White bass congregate in the shallower, moving water to spawn, making them easier to target. Look for them near the Highway 13 bridge over the Pearl River – it's a known hotspot. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective. Later in the year, white bass can be found in the deeper pools and around submerged structure. A fish finder can be invaluable for locating these schools. While not giants, the white bass here are plentiful, and their aggressive strikes make for exciting fishing. Remember that river levels can fluctuate dramatically, so check conditions before you go. Also, be prepared for some bank fishing as boat access can be limited in certain areas.
