Wahoo

Various

Captiva is a prime location for targeting Wahoo, especially in the deeper waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The area's proximity to offshore structure and the Gulf Stream creates ideal conditions for these fast-moving predators. Trolling is the most effective method, focusing on areas with significant depth changes, such as ledges and drop-offs. The best time to target Wahoo is during the warmer months, typically from late spring through early fall. High-speed trolling with lures or rigged baits is a popular technique. Look for areas with current and baitfish activity. Remember to use wire leaders to prevent bite-offs. A popular spot is around offshore wrecks and artificial reefs. A local tip: keep an eye on the moon phase, as Wahoo activity often increases around the full and new moons.
