If you're targeting walleye in the Gooding, Idaho area, your best bet is the Hagerman Wildlife Management Area. This area has several productive ponds and canals connected to the Snake River that hold decent populations of walleye. While they might not be giants, they are present. Early spring, as the water warms up, and again in the fall are prime times. Focus your efforts around structure like submerged vegetation or rocky points. A jig tipped with a nightcrawler or a small swimbait retrieved slowly along the bottom often produces results. Access can be a bit tricky in places, so scout your locations beforehand using maps and be prepared for some walking. Also, be mindful of irrigation schedules, as water levels can fluctuate rapidly. Check IDFG regulations for any specific restrictions in the area.
