Walleye

Jerome, Idaho, might not be the first place that comes to mind for walleye, but the Snake River and its reservoirs offer surprisingly good fishing. Walleye thrive in the deep, turbid waters of Lake Walcott and Milner Reservoir. Spring and fall are prime times, as walleye move shallower to spawn and feed aggressively before winter. Focus on areas near the dam at Lake Walcott or the submerged structure in Milner. A local tip: trolling crankbaits along the old river channel in Milner can be incredibly effective. Be aware that water levels in the Snake River system can fluctuate significantly depending on irrigation demands, so check conditions before you head out. The walleye here tend to average 2-5 pounds, but larger fish are definitely possible. The fishery relies on stocking, so practicing catch and release on larger fish helps maintain the population.
