Walleye

Walleye fishing around Grangeville, Idaho, presents a bit of a challenge, as it's not a primary walleye destination. Your best bet is to head further south towards the Dworshak Reservoir, a significant impoundment on the North Fork Clearwater River. While Dworshak is known more for kokanee and trout, it does hold a population of walleye. Targeting them requires a different approach than traditional walleye fisheries. Focus on the lower end of the reservoir near the dam, particularly during the spring and fall months. Trolling crankbaits or jigging along steep drop-offs are effective techniques. Because Dworshak is a large reservoir, a boat is almost essential for serious walleye fishing. Check the reservoir levels before you go, as they can fluctuate significantly. Also, be prepared for potentially windy conditions on the open water.
