Walleye

Walleye fishing near Stanley, Idaho, is limited but not impossible. While not the first species that comes to mind when you think of the Sawtooth Mountains, a few reservoirs and lakes further afield have been stocked with Walleye. These fish are more common in lower elevations, so you'll likely need to travel a bit. Check stocking reports for the closest reservoirs in the region. Summer provides the best opportunity, with early morning and late evening being prime times. Jigs tipped with nightcrawlers or minnows are a reliable presentation. Be aware that the Walleye population is not as robust as in more traditional Walleye fisheries, so practice catch and release to help maintain the population. Also, research access roads as some may be seasonal or require high-clearance vehicles.
