Walleye

While Alpine, Wyoming, might be better known for its stunning mountain scenery and access to the Snake River, don't overlook the walleye fishing opportunities a short drive away in Palisades Reservoir. This large reservoir, formed by the Palisades Dam on the Snake River, offers a surprisingly productive walleye fishery. Spring and early summer are prime times, as the walleye move into shallower waters to spawn. Trolling crankbaits or jigging along submerged structure can be highly effective. As the water warms in summer, look for walleye in deeper, cooler water near the dam. A Wyoming fishing license is required, and be sure to check the specific regulations for Palisades Reservoir, as they can change. Boat access is readily available at several ramps around the reservoir, but be prepared for potentially windy conditions, especially in the afternoons. Locals often have luck near the dam and along the old river channel.
