Walleye

While the Bear River in Wyoming isn't necessarily renowned as a walleye hotspot, there's a growing population that provides a unique fishing opportunity. The best areas to target walleye are in the deeper, slower-moving sections of the river and in the Woodruff Narrows Reservoir, which the Bear River feeds. Spring and fall are the most productive times, as walleye tend to move into shallower water to spawn or feed. Jigging with minnows or using crankbaits that imitate local forage fish are effective techniques. A key local tip is to pay attention to structure; walleye often relate to submerged logs, rock piles, and drop-offs. Also, be aware that the reservoir levels can fluctuate, impacting fish location and accessibility. The walleye in this system tend to be relatively smaller than those in larger reservoirs, but the challenge of finding them in a less-typical walleye environment adds to the appeal.
