White Bass

White bass aren't the first fish that come to mind when you think of Arizona, but some of the reservoirs near Bisbee can offer surprisingly good white bass action at certain times of the year. These schooling fish provide exciting, fast-paced fishing when you find them. Spring is the prime time for white bass, as they migrate upstream to spawn. During this period, they can be found in large numbers near creek inlets and river channels. Look for surface activity or use your electronics to locate schools of fish. Small crankbaits, spinners, and jigs are effective lures for white bass. Trolling can also be a productive technique for covering water and finding schools. Be mindful of wind conditions, as they can change quickly in the desert. Also, remember that white bass are schooling fish, so if you catch one, there are likely more nearby. Keep an eye out for birds diving, as this can be a good indicator of feeding white bass.
