White Bass

While Cottonwood, Arizona, might not be the first place that comes to mind for white bass, the area offers access to some lesser-known, but potentially rewarding, white bass fishing. Alamo Lake, a bit of a drive west of Cottonwood, is a key destination. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target white bass here, as they migrate upstream to spawn. Look for them in the incoming creek channels and along windblown points. Small crankbaits, spinners, and jigs are effective lures. A local tip: check the Arizona Game and Fish Department website for stocking reports and fishing conditions at Alamo Lake, as water levels can fluctuate significantly. The white bass in Alamo Lake are known for their aggressive strikes, so be prepared for a good fight. While Alamo Lake is the primary destination, the Verde River can also hold some white bass during their spawning runs, though in smaller numbers.
