White Bass

If you're chasing White Bass in northeast Arkansas, Black Rock provides a great starting point, particularly due to its proximity to the Black River. This river system, along with nearby Spring River, offers excellent spawning runs in the early spring, typically March and April. Focus your efforts on areas with current breaks, such as near bridge pilings or where smaller creeks enter the main river channel. White Bass congregate in these spots as they move upstream to spawn. A simple white or chartreuse jig, or small crankbaits retrieved quickly, are usually effective. Public access is available at the Black Rock access point, but be aware the river can fluctuate rapidly depending on rainfall, so check water levels before you go. Later in the year you can find them around the mouths of the creeks and in the deeper pools of the river.
