White Bass

If you're after some fast-paced white bass action, Garfield, Arkansas, and Beaver Lake are worth a visit. Beaver Lake is a large reservoir known for its healthy white bass population. Spring is prime time when the whites move up the rivers and creeks to spawn. Focus your efforts around the White River and its tributaries entering the lake. Look for schooling activity, often indicated by birds diving and feeding on shad. Small crankbaits, spinners, and white or chartreuse jigs are all effective. Trolling these lures can also be productive. A local's trick is to use a tandem rig with two different lures to see what the fish are keying on. There are several boat ramps around the lake, providing easy access. The white bass in Beaver Lake tend to be of good average size, providing a fun fight on light tackle. Don't overlook the tailwaters below Beaver Dam either; they can be excellent at times.
