White Bass

If you're looking for some hard-fighting white bass in central Arkansas, Searcy offers some excellent opportunities. The Little Red River, which flows near Searcy, is a prime location for these fish, especially during their spring spawning runs. They migrate upstream to spawn, congregating in large numbers below dams and in areas with swift currents. The best time to target white bass is from late February through April, when they are most active. Look for them near the Highway 16 bridge or any of the accessible points along the river. Anglers can have success using small jigs, spinners, or crankbaits. Local tip: a white curly tail grub on a 1/8 oz jig head bounced along the bottom is deadly. During the summer months, white bass can still be found in the deeper pools and around structure. Remember to check the water levels before you go, as heavy rains can affect the river's clarity and accessibility.
