White Bass

If you're after white bass around Albany, Georgia, the Flint River is where you want to be. Spring is undoubtedly the best time, when they move upstream to spawn. Focus your efforts around shoals and rocky areas, as these are prime spawning locations. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective. A local trick is to use tandem rigs with two different colored jigs to see what the fish are keying on. River access can be tricky, so consider using the public boat ramp at Chehaw Park for easy entry. Be aware of current conditions, as the Flint can rise quickly after heavy rains. White bass in this area tend to run smaller than in some other parts of the state, but what they lack in size, they make up for in numbers and fight.
