White Bass

While not as widely known as some other Georgia locations, Chattahoochee Hills offers a unique opportunity to target White Bass in its freshwater creeks and rivers, particularly during their spring spawning runs. The Chattahoochee River itself, and smaller tributaries that feed into it, can hold good numbers of White Bass as they migrate upstream to spawn. This typically occurs from late February through April, depending on water temperatures. Accessing these fish often involves wading in the creeks or fishing from the banks of the Chattahoochee. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective lures. A local tip: Pay close attention to water flow and clarity. White Bass tend to congregate in areas with current breaks or near the mouths of creeks. Also, be mindful of private property and obtain permission before fishing on private land. Because these runs can be dependent on rainfall, it's a good idea to check local river conditions before heading out.
