White Bass

While not as widely known for white bass as some other areas in Georgia, Ila still presents opportunities to target these schooling fish, particularly in the tributaries of larger reservoirs nearby. The best time to target white bass near Ila is during their spring spawning run, when they migrate upstream. Look for them in the Broad River or its feeder creeks. Areas with current and rocky bottoms are prime locations. Small spinners, jigs, and crankbaits are effective lures. A local tip: pay attention to water clarity; white bass prefer clearer water. If the water is muddy after a rain, try fishing further downstream where the water is clearer. The white bass in this area are generally smaller than those found in larger reservoirs, but they can provide fast action and are a welcome catch.
