White Bass

White bass can offer some exciting fishing action near Oliver, Georgia, particularly when they make their spawning runs. While not as widely targeted as largemouth, the Ogeechee River system does hold a population of white bass that can provide some fast-paced action. The key is to time your trip with their upstream migration, which typically occurs in early spring. Focus your efforts on the main river channel and the mouths of creeks and tributaries. These fish are often concentrated in areas with current breaks or rocky shoals. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective lures. Access to the Ogeechee can be found at the Highway 301 bridge ramp, but be mindful of river conditions as water levels can fluctuate. While white bass may not reach enormous sizes, they fight hard and can be caught in good numbers during their spawning runs. Look for areas with clear water, as the stained water of the Ogeechee can sometimes make it difficult for them to find your lure.
