White Bass

White bass fanatics will find some exciting action in the Sharpsburg area during their spring spawning runs. Head to the Flint River for the best opportunity to intercept these schooling fish. Early spring, typically March and April, is prime time, as the whites migrate upstream to spawn. Look for them congregating below shoals, rapids, and dams. Small crankbaits, spinners, and white or chartreuse jigs are effective lures. Focus on areas with current breaks and eddies. A local tip: pay attention to water clarity. If the river is muddy after a rain, the bite will be tougher. The Highway 16 bridge provides decent bank access, but a small boat or kayak will allow you to cover more water and find the concentrated schools.
