While not as widely known as some other species, white bass can be found near Social Circle, particularly in the spring. Your best bet is to head to the upper reaches of Lake Jackson during their spawning run, typically from late February through April. These fish migrate upstream to spawn, concentrating in areas with moving water. Focus your efforts around the mouths of the Yellow and Alcovy Rivers, which feed into Lake Jackson. Small crankbaits, spinners, and jigs are effective lures. A local's trick is to fish early in the morning or late in the evening when the light is low, as this often triggers increased feeding activity. Be aware that water levels in the rivers can fluctuate, so check conditions before you go. The white bass in Lake Jackson are known for their schooling behavior, so if you catch one, there are likely more nearby.
