White Bass

If you're looking to tangle with some hard-fighting white bass in North Georgia, Toccoa is a great starting point. Lake Toccoa, while smaller, offers a concentrated population of these fish, especially during their spring spawning runs up the Toccoa River and its tributaries. Focus your efforts from late February through April, as the whites congregate in the shallows to spawn. Small spinners, crankbaits, and inline spinners are effective choices. A local tip: the area around the Hwy 17 bridge can be particularly productive. Also, be aware that water levels can fluctuate rapidly in Lake Toccoa due to power generation, so check conditions before heading out. The white bass here aren't huge, averaging a pound or two, but their aggressive strikes and spirited fights make for exciting fishing.
