White Bass

White bass fishing near Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, can be surprisingly productive, particularly in the spring as these fish make their spawning runs. Focus your efforts on the Platte River and its tributaries. The white bass will often congregate below dams and in areas with current breaks. The peak season is typically April and May when they move upstream to spawn. Small crankbaits, spinners, and jigs are all effective lures. Look for areas where the river narrows or has some structure like submerged logs or rocks. A good access point is the Highway 77 bridge crossing the Platte, where you can often find access to the riverbank. Be prepared for some wading, as the best fishing is often in the shallower riffles.
