Striped Bass

While not as common as some other species, striped bass can be found in the Platte River system near Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, though they are typically landlocked hybrids (Wipers). These fish are usually the result of stocking programs in reservoirs upstream that occasionally spill over into the river system. Your best bet for targeting them is during the spring and fall as water temperatures moderate. Look for them in deeper holes and near current breaks, especially below dams if accessible. Large swimbaits, crankbaits, and bucktail jigs are all good choices. The Platte River can be challenging to navigate, so a boat is helpful but not always necessary.
