White Bass

Comstock, Nebraska, and the surrounding areas offer some exciting white bass action, especially in the spring. The Middle Loup River and connected reservoirs like Sherman Reservoir are prime locations. White bass are known for their aggressive feeding habits and schooling behavior, making for some fast-paced fishing when you find them. The spring spawning run is the peak time, when white bass migrate upstream into the river to spawn. Look for them near current breaks, rocky points, and below dams. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective lures. A local tip is to watch for birds diving – often an indicator of a school of white bass feeding on the surface. Sherman Reservoir can also hold good numbers of white bass, especially near the dam and in the arms of the reservoir. Focus on areas with wind blowing into them, as this concentrates baitfish and attracts white bass. Remember to check the local fishing reports for current conditions and spawning activity.
