In central Nebraska, Comstock presents some decent largemouth bass fishing opportunities, primarily in smaller, less-pressured lakes and farm ponds dotting the landscape. These often-overlooked waters can hold surprisingly healthy bass populations. Spring is the prime time, with bass moving shallow to spawn. Focus on areas with emergent vegetation, flooded timber, or any type of structure that provides cover. Fall is another productive period as the bass feed heavily to prepare for winter. Access to these ponds can sometimes be tricky, requiring permission from landowners. Always respect private property and obtain permission before fishing. The bass in these smaller waters can be sensitive to fishing pressure, so try using finesse techniques and varied retrieves. Local tip: A Texas-rigged worm or a spinnerbait worked along the edges of weed beds can be deadly. Also, pay attention to water clarity; if it's clear, switch to natural-colored lures.
