White Bass

Roff, Oklahoma, might be small, but it holds some surprisingly good white bass fishing, particularly in the spring. The key here is the Blue River and its confluence with the Canadian River. During the spring spawning runs, white bass migrate upstream, and these rivers become choked with them. Focus your efforts from late March through April, when the water temperatures start to rise. Bank access is available at several bridge crossings along the Blue River, but a small boat or kayak will significantly expand your options. Try targeting areas with current breaks or submerged timber with small crankbaits, spinners, or even live minnows. Be aware that water levels in the Blue River can fluctuate rapidly depending on rainfall, so check conditions before you head out. Also, be prepared to share the water, as this is a popular spot for locals chasing the same spring run.
