White Bass

Verdigris, Oklahoma, offers some fast-paced white bass action, particularly during their spring spawning runs. These feisty fish congregate in the Verdigris River and its tributaries as they migrate upstream to spawn. Look for them near riffles, below dams, and in areas with current breaks. Early spring (March-April) is peak season, but you can also find white bass throughout the summer months in deeper pools. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective lures. A light to medium-action rod and reel will make for an enjoyable fight. Public access to the river is available at several points, but be prepared for potentially muddy conditions, especially after rainfall. Local anglers often wade fish, targeting areas with rocky bottoms and strong currents. Keep an eye out for bird activity, as flocks of birds often indicate schools of feeding white bass. Remember to check local regulations regarding size and creel limits.
