Rockwall's proximity to Lake Ray Hubbard makes it an excellent destination for white bass anglers. Often called 'sand bass' locally, these fish provide fast action and are a blast to catch. Spring is the absolute peak, as the white bass migrate upstream to spawn. Focus your efforts in the upper reaches of the lake where the creeks and rivers flow in. Look for them congregating near points and submerged timber. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective. During the summer, white bass tend to school up in deeper water, chasing shad. Trolling with crankbaits or using slabs and jigging spoons can be productive. A fish finder is crucial for locating these schools. A good access point is the boat ramp at Chandler's Landing, offering easy access to the main lake. Keep an eye on local fishing reports, as white bass runs can be highly dependent on water levels and temperature.
