Atlantic Sharpnose Shark
Miami offers fantastic opportunities to target Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks, particularly in Biscayne Bay and just offshore in the Atlantic. Spring and summer months are prime time as the water warms and these sharks move closer to shore to feed and breed. Look for them around channels, grass flats, and near the numerous inlets where baitfish congregate. A great access point is Haulover Inlet, offering both shore fishing and boat launching options. Be aware of the strong currents around the inlet. Local sharks tend to be relatively small, averaging 3-4 feet, but they put up a great fight on light tackle. Chumming is effective, but be prepared for other species like jacks and barracuda. Consider using a wire leader to prevent bite-offs and practice catch and release to help maintain the population.
