Blackfin Tuna
If Blackfin Tuna is your target, Amelia Island's proximity to the Gulf Stream makes it a great departure point. The waters off the northeast Florida coast offer excellent opportunities to tangle with these hard-fighting tuna. The best time to target Blackfin is generally during the spring and fall migrations. Look for them around offshore structures, weed lines, and areas with significant current breaks. Chumming is a very effective technique for attracting Blackfin to the boat. Live bait, such as pilchards or cigar minnows, is highly effective when available. A crucial local tip: pay attention to the birds. Diving birds often indicate the presence of bait schools, which in turn attract tuna. The Fernandina Harbor Marina offers convenient access to the ocean. Blackfin Tuna in this area are known for their willingness to take a variety of lures and baits, and they provide a thrilling fight on light to medium tackle.
