Blue Catfish

Targeting blue catfish near Bushnell, Nebraska, presents a unique challenge. While Bushnell itself doesn't sit right on a major catfish river, venturing a bit further east towards the larger river systems like the Platte River or the Missouri River tributaries opens up possibilities. Spring and early summer, particularly after a good rain that raises water levels, can trigger excellent catfish activity as they move upstream to spawn. Focus on deep holes, submerged timber, and areas where tributaries enter the main river. Be prepared for some travel as the best access points might be a drive. Local anglers often use cut bait – carp or shad if you can find it – as blue catfish respond well to strong scents.
