Blue Catfish

Although Blue Catfish aren't as prevalent as Flatheads in the immediate vicinity of Butte, Nebraska, venturing a bit further south towards the Missouri River opens up opportunities to target them. The Missouri River system is the primary habitat for Blue Catfish in Nebraska. Summer and early fall are ideal times to fish for Blues, as they become more active in warmer water. Cut bait, particularly oily fish like shad or skipjack, is a top choice for attracting these catfish. Focus on deeper channels, areas near dams (if accessible), and confluences of smaller rivers or creeks. Check the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission website for access points and regulations along the Missouri River. Be aware of strong currents and boat traffic on the Missouri. Blues in this region can reach impressive sizes, so be sure to use heavy tackle and a sturdy rod holder.
