Channel Catfish

If you're looking for some excellent channel catfishing in western Nebraska, Minatare is a great place to start. The North Platte River runs nearby and is the primary draw, offering diverse structure and plenty of room to roam. Anglers also find success in the nearby canals and smaller reservoirs. Spring and early summer, after the spawn, are prime times to target these whiskered predators as they actively feed. Fall is also productive as they fatten up for winter. A key to success here is finding areas with current breaks and submerged structure like fallen trees or rock piles. Bank fishing access is available at several points along the river, but a small boat or kayak will greatly expand your options. Be aware that water levels on the North Platte can fluctuate, so check conditions before you go. The channel catfish in this area are known for their good size and strong fight, making for a memorable angling experience.
