Channel Catfish
If you're after channel cats in northern Wyoming, the Bighorn River near Frannie is your best bet. This stretch of the Bighorn offers classic catfish habitat – deep holes, undercut banks, and plenty of submerged structure. The warmer months, from late spring through summer, are prime time, with the cats becoming more active as the water temperature rises. Night fishing can be particularly productive. For access, look for public access points along Highway 310; some require a short walk to the river. Be mindful of private property and respect landowner rights. Local tip: focus on areas where smaller creeks or irrigation ditches enter the Bighorn, as these often concentrate baitfish and, subsequently, catfish. The Bighorn cats aren't known for their massive size here, but you can reliably find good numbers of smaller, feisty fish.
