Crappie anglers will find plenty to enjoy around Hoschton, Georgia, thanks to its proximity to Lake Lanier. This large reservoir is a popular spot for crappie fishing, offering both black and white crappie. The spring spawn (March-April) is the peak time, when crappie congregate in shallow coves and around submerged structure. Minnows and jigs are the go-to baits. During the rest of the year, crappie tend to hold in deeper water around brush piles and submerged trees. Many anglers use electronics to locate these structures. Lanier has numerous boat ramps and fish attractors marked on maps, making it relatively easy to find productive areas. A local tip: try fishing under bridges and docks, as crappie often seek shelter there. Be aware of Lanier's clear water conditions – using lighter line and natural-colored baits can improve your success. Also, remember that Lanier can get very busy, especially on weekends, so plan accordingly.
