Crappie

Oswego offers some fantastic crappie fishing, especially if you key in on the changing seasons. The Oswego River, with its slower-moving backwaters and connected bays, becomes a crappie haven as the water warms. Spring is prime time, as crappie move into these shallow areas to spawn. Focus your efforts around submerged timber, docks, and weed beds – these areas hold plenty of forage and provide cover. Live minnows or small jigs under a slip bobber are classic presentations that work well here. As the water heats up in summer, crappie will often retreat to deeper, cooler water, so adjust your depth accordingly. A local tip: try fishing the areas near Wright's Landing Marina; the structure there can hold good numbers of crappie. Also, pay attention to water clarity; if the river is running high and muddy, crappie will often move into the clearer waters of the bays.
