Flounder

While Diamond Point, New York, isn't typically known as a flounder hotspot, there are certainly opportunities to target these flatfish in the area, particularly in the shallower, more protected coves and bays connected to Lake Champlain. The key is to focus on areas with muddy or sandy bottoms where flounder can easily camouflage themselves. Spring and early summer, when the water starts to warm up, are the most productive times. Small, live minnows or pieces of sandworm fished on a bottom rig are effective baits. A slow, deliberate presentation is crucial, as flounder are ambush predators. A practical tip: look for areas near docks or pilings, as these structures often attract baitfish and, consequently, flounder. Also, be aware that the water clarity in Lake Champlain can vary depending on the weather and time of year. If the water is murky, try using a scented bait or a lure with a rattle to attract the flounder's attention.
