Flounder

If you're looking to tangle with some flatfish, Wrightsville Beach offers excellent flounder opportunities. The inshore waters around Wrightsville, including the Intracoastal Waterway and nearby inlets like Masonboro Inlet, are prime hunting grounds. Flounder fishing really heats up in the spring and fall as they migrate inshore and offshore, respectively. Focus on areas with good current flow and structure, such as docks, bridges, and channel edges. Live baitfish like mullet or mud minnows are hard to beat, but scented artificials can also produce. A local tip: try drifting along the edges of the ICW channel with a Carolina-rigged bait. Be mindful of water clarity, as flounder prefer clearer conditions. Also, keep an eye on the water temperature. Flounder tend to be more active when the water is between 65 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The flounder population here consists of both Southern and Summer flounder, offering a diverse fishery.
