Flounder

Freeport offers excellent opportunities to target flounder, especially during their migrations. The fall months, as water temperatures cool, are prime time as flounder move from the bays to the Gulf for spawning. Focus your efforts around the mouths of the Brazos River and the many bayous and canals that feed into it. Look for areas with muddy or sandy bottoms near structure like docks, piers, and jetties. A local tip: try drifting live mud minnows or finger mullet along the bottom with a Carolina rig. The Freeport area sees good numbers of flounder, and while trophy-sized fish aren't uncommon, the consistent action is what makes it a popular destination. Remember to check the tides; outgoing tides often concentrate baitfish and draw in the flounder.
