Flounder

Port Isabel is a prime location for targeting flounder, particularly in the fall during their migration to the Gulf of Mexico. The Lower Laguna Madre's shallow flats and muddy bottoms provide ideal habitat for these ambush predators. Concentrate your efforts around areas with good tidal flow, such as the mouths of channels and around docks. Slow-rolling a soft plastic grub along the bottom is a highly effective technique. A local's secret: try fishing at night under the lights of the causeway. Flounder are attracted to the light, making them easier to target. Remember to use a landing net, as flounder have delicate mouths. Also, be sure to check the current regulations regarding size and bag limits, as they can change seasonally.
