Hybrid Striped Bass

Hybrid striped bass, a hard-fighting cross between striped bass and white bass, aren't as common in the immediate vicinity of Boys Town, but some of the larger reservoirs within driving distance can hold populations of these fish. Look to places like Zorinsky Lake or Lake Manawa (just across the river in Iowa) for your best chance at finding them. Hybrids are schooling fish, so when you find one, you're likely to find more. They often congregate near points, submerged humps, and areas with current. Spring and fall are prime times, as the water temperatures are more favorable and the hybrids are actively feeding. Trolling crankbaits or casting swimbaits can be effective methods for locating schools. Live bait, such as shad or shiners, can also be productive. Be sure to check the specific regulations for each lake, as size and creel limits for hybrid striped bass can vary. Also, be prepared for some competition from other anglers, especially on weekends.
